This week’s photo takes us back to the celebration of our scholarship nominees and winners, during lunch with our board members on May 8.  Returning scholar Jilberto Reyes gave a moving talk about his life as a first-generation college student and the joy his mother will feel when he walks across the stage at graduation. 

Jilberto is one of our Patrick Foley Scholars, already working in the wine industry.  Gerald Jones, our VP for Student Affairs and mentor to many of our first-generation students, shared with me the story of Jilberto’s successful journey, from a young student naturally fearful of public speaking to a man who can now command the room.
